Research Knowledge and Managerial Effectiveness: Making effective management decisions with research knowledge

Research Knowledge is Critical to Managerial Effectiveness, this is because managers are responsible for the outcome of their work-related decisions. They seize the day by making quick and right decisions daily, like how to go about with email marketing campaign or what strategy works best for the business. These decisions are greatly facilitated by expert level research knowledge. It is knowledge of what tools and resources to use, how to make a proper use of them and leveraging their attributes that turns managers into Superheroes. Knowledge of research also heightens the sensitivity of managers to the innumerable internal and external factors operating in their work and organizational environment. Therefore, a manager who is aware of all these nuances can better understand the business goal and its future potentialities, create a plan so that it produces positive outcomes, maintain better relationships with their consultants, etc., at higher level than an ignorant manager.

A cross-sectional study was carried out to assess whether managers' lack of research knowledge has an impact on organizational competitiveness, using the four Nigerian universities in Cross River State as sample units. The results show that most university administrators are unskilled in research and lack awareness of how research skills can help them to improve organizational competitiveness. The authors conclude that managers should develop their research skills to improve their organizations’ competitiveness.

Research knowledge enhances the managerial effectiveness and decision-making skills of a manager. Being a manager of any organization, you should be aware regarding research knowledge not so complex but should have basic knowledge about it. Keep yourself updated regarding technological use in research like simulation and model building which is now available and provided by many external research consultants. Lack of knowledge in that area could result in misgiving of results and will make no sense in front of you because you could be the bling paper at that moment. Hence the knowledge of such techniques helps you the deal with research consultants in established and self-confident manner. This also positively impacts on results while dealing with such expertise having technological use in research.

Not surprisingly, as a manager you must make the final concrete decisions about the implementations which are recommended by the research team. On the other hand, rest of the objectives that focus on problem solving along with the understanding of recommendations made, why and how they happen, contribute to good managerial decisions. As from research findings, you also may face occasions where company’s traditions confront you, which needs to be substitute or re-adapted due to the changing environment.
